For February break this year we decided not to go skiing, but rather to South Africa! We've always said we would go on a safari in South Africa sometime, and we decided it was finally time!
We flew from Zurich directly to Johannesburg, then connected to Cape Town. After a few days in Cape Town we flew to Port Elizabeth then went on safari
in Shamwari Game Reserve. It really was a perfect trip!
Here are the highlights from the Cape Town portion of the trip:
We stayed at an apartment in the Victoria and Alfred Marina. This was such a great location – within easy walking distance to the waterfront with so many different shops, restaurants and entertainment. We also went to the aquarium that was right in this area, and a natural foods market that was a great place for lunch and snacks. We ate some cool things – specifically Springbock, Crocodile, Zebra. It was a real adventure!

Cape Town was very fun. It’s a great city and the South African people are so friendly. We had a very nice tour guide named Malcolm who taught us a lot about the country and the history. We visited the sights, including going up Table Mountain with the rotating gondola, spent time at the beach, and took a tour around the cape. We went to Cape Point lighthouse and we also saw the penguins at Boulders Beach. That was amazing – there were penguins covering the whole beach! We went to church on Sunday, which was very cool. It was not far from where we were staying, but the taxi driver had a hard time finding it…we were about to give up, when I saw a steeple sticking up from behind the block, so we went around the corner and there it was! We were a bit late, but it was well worth it, as the talks were outstanding. It was really special.
